Intro: A pioneering figure in Thailand\’s automotive industry, Thavorn Phornprapha founded Nissan distributor Siam Motors in 1952 to help Nissan Motor sell its cars outside Japan. Assembly operations got underway 10 years later. Today, Siam Nissan Automobile has an annual capacity of 100,000 units. After the death of the company\’s founder in July, 2001 Nissan Motor Co. took 75 per cent stake in Siam Motors\’ two Nissan assembly and distribution subsidiaries while the Phornprapha family retined 25 per cent of the shares.
